Peter Paul Rubens (1577-1640)
Peter Paul Rubens was born in Siegen in Germany. When he was still a child, his family moved to Antwerp where he later received his artistic training from Tobias Verhaecht, Adam van Noort and Otto van Veen who taught him all the ins and outs of his profession. His talent was confirmed by the guild in Antwerp which accepted him as a master. Rubens' style belongs to the Antwerp school of the early 17th century. Rubens was probably the principal exponent of Flemish Baroque although he clearly incorporated Italian influences.
