BALZAC
Sculpture of Honore de BALZAC (1799-1850)
based on the original (Bronze) from August Rodin, Musée Rodin, Paris
In 1891 Rodin received a commission from the Societé des Gens de Lettres to create a sculpture of Honore de Balzac (1799-1850), one of France's most influential writers. Rodin worked several years on this sculpture. He wanted to show Balzac as an unresting, impulsively writer. Upon presenting it to the committee, it was met with outrage and refused. About 40 years later it was finally shown in Paris.
