The sculpture 'The Adolescent' is part of a series of sculptures of vulnerable boy figures with a stric geometric design reminiscent of Flemish Gothic.
In 1920, the re-knowned author Karel van de Woestijne wrote of: '... delicate figures, monumental, large, closed, overflowing with ripe emotion, of intimate suffering, calm contemplation - determined in their simplification of form and full of rich planar complexity (...) But what an exceptionally rich rhythm of planes and lines (...), how whips expression up even higher. Because in no way is Minne in search of the 'beautiful' line, the delicate balane, classic beauty and easy admiration. Minne's statues have a wondrous vigour that is hard to explain..."
